Deriv's five MT5 accounts
All five run on the same MetaTrader 5 app, and none has a minimum deposit. What changes is how you pay — through the spread, a commission or overnight swaps — and who each one is built for. Deriv's own figures:
Standard account
Derived and financial markets, forex and gold included, with competitive spreads and swap fees.
- Spreads
- From 0.1 pips
- Commission
- No
- Minimum deposit
- No
- Asset classes
- Financials, Derived Indices
Suits: most traders — every cost is in the spread, so it is the simplest place to start.
Zero Spread account
Spreads from 0 pips for low-cost entries and exits, with a commission on each trade instead.
- Spreads
- From 0 pips
- Commission
- Yes
- Minimum deposit
- No
- Asset classes
- Financials, Derived Indices
Suits: short-term traders who prefer a known fee per trade to a spread that widens.
Swap-Free account
Trade without overnight swap fees on derived and financial instruments.
- Spreads
- From 0.3 pips
- Commission
- No
- Minimum deposit
- No
- Asset classes
- Financials, Derived Indices
Suits: holding trades for days. No swaps for 15 days on forex and gold (5 on derived indices); after that a daily admin fee applies.
Financial account
Financial markets with Deriv's tightest spreads, for quick, frequent trades.
- Spreads
- From 0.2 pips
- Commission
- No
- Minimum deposit
- No
- Asset classes
- Financials, Derived Indices
Suits: active forex traders who open and close many trades a day.
Gold account
Gold and precious metals in a dedicated account, with spreads tuned for metals.
- Spreads
- From 25 pips
- Commission
- No
- Minimum deposit
- No
- Asset classes
- Commodities
Suits: traders who mainly trade gold and want metals kept separate from their forex.
"From" is Deriv's tightest advertised spread on the account. Typical spreads are wider, especially at quiet hours and around big news, so compare costs on the pairs you actually trade.
Trading gold on Deriv
Gold is one of the world's most traded markets, and it rarely sits still: US interest-rate news, the dollar and world events can move it USD 20–50 in a day. With a CFD you can trade those moves in either direction — that is what makes gold exciting, and why it needs a plan.
Trade rises and falls
Buy if you expect gold to rise, sell if you expect it to fall.
Start from 1 ounce
0.01 lot is 1 oz, so each USD 1 move is USD 1 of profit or loss.
Nearly 24 hours
Sunday 22:10 to Friday 20:45 GMT, with a short daily break.
A dedicated account
The MT5 Gold account keeps metals apart, with no commission.
Here is how one gold trade works, with the stop-loss and take-profit set before you enter:
- Order
- Buy
- Size
- 0.10 lot · 10 oz
- Stop loss
- −USD 15
- Take profit
- +USD 30
- Reward : risk
- 2 : 1
Illustrative only — not a real trade, a live price or a forecast. A stop-loss caps the planned loss, but in a fast market a trade can close at a worse price than the level you set.
Silver, platinum and palladium trade the same way. Gold is also on Deriv cTrader and through TradingView, if you would rather not use MT5.
Forex on Deriv: 50+ currency pairs
Deriv groups its currency pairs four ways:
- Majors — the most traded currencies, such as EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/JPY. Usually the tightest spreads.
- Minors — major currencies traded against each other without the US dollar, such as EUR/GBP and GBP/JPY.
- Exotics — a major currency against one from a growing economy, such as USD/SGD. Wider spreads and sharper moves.
- Micro pairs — majors and minors in smaller contract sizes, for very small positions.
When the market is open
Most pairs open at 21:10 GMT on Sunday — Monday morning in Asia — and close at 20:55 GMT on Friday.
In your time zone (), forex opens and closes . The busy London–New York overlap is .
Deriv's derived indices and cryptocurrencies trade 24/7, weekends included.
There is a short daily break from 20:59 to 21:10 GMT. From early November to mid-March, after US clocks go back, these times move one hour later. The busiest stretch is roughly 12:00–16:00 GMT, when the London and New York sessions overlap.
What it costs
- Spread. The main cost on the Standard, Swap-Free, Financial and Gold accounts, none of which charge commission.
- Commission. Only on the Zero Spread account, in return for spreads from 0 pips.
- Overnight swaps. Charged or credited when you hold a position overnight, except on the Swap-Free account. Its grace period is 15 days on financial instruments such as forex and gold and 5 days on derived indices; after that a daily admin fee applies until you close.
- Deposits and withdrawals. From USD 5 by e-wallet (Skrill, Neteller and others), crypto or mobile money, and from USD 10 by Visa or Mastercard — up to USD 10,000 per transaction on most methods. In many countries, Deriv P2P lets you pay in your local currency.
Leverage cuts both ways. At 1:1000, USD 10 of margin controls a USD 10,000 position — and a 1% move against you costs USD 100. Gold goes up to 1:500. The higher the leverage, the faster a small move can wipe out your balance.
Who holds your account
Deriv is a group of companies, and the one you open an account with depends on where you live. They include Deriv (BVI) Ltd, regulated by the British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission; Deriv (V) Ltd, regulated by the Vanuatu Financial Services Commission; Deriv (FX) Ltd, regulated by the Labuan Financial Services Authority in Malaysia; and Deriv (Mauritius) Ltd, regulated by the Financial Services Commission, Mauritius. Deriv (SVG) LLC is registered in St Vincent and the Grenadines without a financial regulator.
Worth weighing: these are offshore regulators, which generally offer less protection than those in the UK or EU. Check which Deriv company your account is with when you sign up. In the UAE, Deriv has a locally licensed Dubai company — see our UAE guide.
